Helping nurses transform health and healthcare delivery.

Building a Sustained Nursing Workforce of the Future

An estimated 20 million nurses and midwives worldwide – more than 50% of the healthcare workforce — make up the backbone of health systems.

The recent Future of Nursing 2020-2030 Charting a Path to Health Equity report, Accelerating Nursing, Transforming Healthcare research and the Tri-Council Report highlights the need for a robust, diverse, engaged nursing workforce, empowered to innovate and lead transformative change. This last year has underscored the need for technology-driven solutions spearheaded by nurses and healthcare professionals. Whether it’s been the shift to online working, the spike in online demand, or the increase in telehealth services, technology has emerged as a critical need for everyone. For nurses and healthcare professionals, technology has led to increased user-friendly solutions, safer patient interactions and diversified career pathways. Now more than ever before, our world needs a larger, more diverse nursing workforce focused on bringing care to patients across the globe

Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft and the Society of Nurse Scientists Innovators Entrepreneurs and Leaders (SONSIEL) are proud to continue the NursesHack4Health (NH4H) virtual hackathon series focused on leveraging technology as a modern tool for healthcare transformation. The next NH4H will bring together healthcare innovators from around the globe to hack on this year’s topic: “Building a Sustained Nursing Workforce for the Future.”

We invite nurses, nursing students, healthcare professionals, developers, engineers, IT experts, and innovators to bring their experiences, ideas, and insights. Over the weekend, participants will have the chance to share their ideas with others, build a team or join a team with an exciting idea.

Collaborating as a team, participants can choose to create a solution that drives healthcare transformation, enhances the patient experience, enriches the caregiver experience/engagement or works to increase the efficiency of health systems amid the current pandemic environment and beyond. There are 3 different tracks participants can choose from.

Help innovate, prototype and drive one of a kind healthcare transformation:

With invaluable hands-on patient experience, resourcefulness and innovative mindset, nurses bring forward powerful ideas on how to help improve health and healthcare.

Strengthening nurse skill-sets to innovate and lead healthcare transformation.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Fast track your solutions for a sustainable and healthier future for everyone.

Hackers will work in teams to create a minimally viable product (MVP) that can be fast-tracked for further development and testing in a healthcare setting. Any nurse who participates in “Building a Sustained Nursing Workforce for the Future,” will have the chance to apply and be randomly selected for a post-hackathon complimentary scholarship seat in the Drexel – SONSIEL Nurse Innovation & Entrepreneurship Certificate Program. Hackers are also encouraged to submit their concept to Johnson & Johnson’s Nurses Innovate QuickFire Challenge, launching in November 2021.

Our world needs problem solvers more than ever. We are eager to connect, get into the action, join the good fight to find solutions for the future.

We hope to see you in November!
